Disney has announced that it is producing a live-action/anime fantasy adventure film titled "Wonderhatch: Soratobu Ryuu no Shima" (Dragons of Wonderhatch in the West). The live-action segments of the film will represent the "real world" while the anime segments will represent the other world where dragons inhabit. This movie will premiere on Disney+ in the winter of next year.
The main characters in this story are Nagi, a high school girl from the real world, and Tyme, a boy who lives in another world where dragon riders can hear their screams and are able to communicate with each other.
Actress Sena Nakajima will play the role of Nagi, while actor Daiken Okudaira will play the role of Tyme. In addition, Yoshito Emmanuelle will play the role of Nagi's friend Son, and Mackenyuu Arata will play the role of Akuta, a dragon rider.
Kentarou Hagiwara (Tokyo Ghoul <live-action>, Iribito, Uso Nante Hitotsu mo Nai no, etc.) will be directing, after spending 5 years developing this project, Takashi Ootsuka (Precure All Stars DX: Minna Tomodachi☆Kiseki no Zenin Daishuugou!, ONE PIECE STAMPEDE, Tropical-Rouge! Precure Petit Tobikome! Collabo♡Dance Party!, etc.) will be in charge of directing the animated segments under the production of the Production I.G. studio, and the mangaka Posuka Demizu, known for being the cartoonist of the manga Yakusoku no Neverland, was in charge of doing the character design and concept art for the animated segments of the film.
